We went to Manzanita Speedway for the USAC/CRA Sprints and Midgets - Also known as “Copper on Dirt”. What a wild experience! The drivers were all wide open. I was told by Ron there would be several cars that would roll but usually no one would be hurt. Standing next to me was a young man, Jake Croxton, who is a photographer for SPEED BLITZ (www.speedblitz.net). Jake called the spot where a roll would occur and he was right on target! Lucky for us we caught all the action. Check out fatbirdphotos.biz for some wild and crazy cars!
You just have to love racin!!

Happy New Year to all. May 2008 bring ![]()
blessings and happiness in all you experience.
We moved to Phoenix on 01/13/08. It is warmer here so we get out more. This past Friday and Saturday we attended the time trials of NHRA at Firebird International Raceway. AMAZING!!! The dragsters, top fuelers, stock, alcohol cars were there. It was LOUD to say the least. When they raced down the track the vibration was felt throughout your body. Car alarms were constantly set off. I never imagined cars could go that fast - 300 MPH and more. I took images in the pits and from the stands. Ron went down to the trackside. His images are beautiful. Be sure to check them out.![]()
Before we left Kanab we did some target shooting - a first for me. Again, something different and LOUD. (Is this a pattern or something?) It was fun once I got over being afraid. I wasn’t ready for the recoil even though Ron gave me great instructions and was very patient. Now that we are in Phoenix we might try an indoor range. Maybe.
It rained this morning in Kanab. This was the first moisture to hit the ground in over a month. After checking the weather for nearby towns we decided to take a road trip to see some snow falling. Just 40 miles north of Kanab the ground was covered and the white stuff was still falling! And it was the ’snowball/snowman’ kind of snow. We took a few pictures and headed back. Maybe by Christmas the snow will make it to this town.
